Many people are concerned about excessive fat intake, with saturated fat being of greatest concern due to its link with cardiovascular disease. All fats and oils contain a mixture of saturated, mono-unsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Generally fats that are solid at room temperature like butter or animal fat, contain a greater proportion of saturated fatty acids and a lower proportion of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids than those which are liquid at room temperature eg cooking oils.
Fats and oils have an important role to play as part of a balanced diet.
- They are a source of the two Essential Fatty Acids, linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) required for normal physiological processes.
- They promote absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, as well as naturally-occurring antioxidants.

Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is one of the Essential Fatty Acids required for human health. It is an important vegetarian source of omega-3. Blackcurrant and walnut oils in Carbonell Cereal & Fruit Oil are a source of ALA, contributing to daily omega-3 intake.
Vegetable oils are a good source of omega-6, in particular linoleic acid (LA), which is one of the Essential Fatty Acids required for optimum health.
Essential Fatty Acids
Alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6) are Essential Fatty Acids, which the human body cannot produce and must obtain in the diet. Alpha-linolenic acid is particularly important as a vegetarian source of omega-3. Carbonell Cereal & Fruit Oil is a source of both the Essential Fatty Acids required for a balanced diet.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that acts as an important antioxidant, helping to protect cells from free radical damage. The wheatgerm and corn in Carbonell Cereal & Fruit Oil are a natural source of vitamin E.
Plant Sterols Gamma Oryzanol
Rice Bran Oil is extracted from the nutritious bran and germ layer of the rice grain. It is a highly-regarded source of natural antioxidants including vitamin E and gamma-oryzanol (a plant sterol), and an important ingredient in Carbonell Cereal & Fruit Oil.
